A week in California offered plenty of fattening opportunities!
1. Sprinkles Cupcakes
It took a bit of a roadtrip, but it was absolutely worth it. These little treats are absolutely, without a doubt, the best cupcakes I have ever had. Better than Baked and Wired, better than Georgetown Cupcake, better than Magnolia, better than Sweet Tooth Fairy (this sentence is further evidence of why I'm fat...)
2. Root Beer Float Night
I had to resurrect one of my signature "this is why my cousins think I'm fun" treats. Ice cream, root beer, cookie straw.
3. Pizza Cookie
...and then the next night, I made my other "this is why my cousins think I'm fun" treat. We made three: original, M&M, and Princess (complete with Disney sprinkles). And maybe one of the participants was crying about an upset stomach afterward...
4. Oceanside Street Fair
a. Custom Cookies
I didn't even know a red velvet cookie existed. And then they drizzled my german chocolate cookie with frosting
b. Danky's Donuts
A.MAZ.ING. They had a teeny tiny deep fryer conveyor belt (Lil' Orbitz, in case you don't know what to get me for Christmas this year). These little dreams come in glazed, powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, and chocolate.

5. Del Mar Fair Reenactment
The fried delights are legendary...Elise blogged about them recently, and my cousin Sam told me all about his sampling of the chocolate covered bacon. So we decided to DIY.
...and in case you are curious, the consensus was not that good, not that bad.
6. Potato Shack
The day we checked out of the beach house, we went to brunch at the Potato Shack in Encinitas. Their pancakes are legendary, partly because of their gargantuan size and partly because of their unfortunate name. Being the well-mannered and ladylike flower that I am, I have to say that I found this name incredibly offensive and didn't make a single inapporpriate joke during the meal. Or on the way there. Or afterwards...

...and then I came home and threw away my bathroom scale and skinny jeans.
